£2.1m housing development complete

Work has been completed on a £2.1 million affordable housing development in Carlisle.

Two Castles Housing Association worked in partnership with Esh Property Services to deliver the 17 new homes at its Gelt Rise Development. The site includes a mix of two, three and four bedroom properties which will be available for rent.

The development, which was supported by £850,000 of funding from the Homes and Communities Agency, will provide much needed affordable housing for people in the area.

Rob Brittain, property services director of Two Castles Housing Association, said: “Two Castles is committed to the provision of affordable housing across Cumbria and we’re delighted to have worked with our partners to deliver such a fantastic development for local people.

“We hope that the development will go some way to meet the need for high quality homes to rent in the area which are currently in high demand.”

Esh Property Services were responsible for construction work on the development, and ensured that each homes was built to Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 standards.

Each one is energy efficient and the highly insulated timber framed buildings all come equipped with solar panels to help provide cheaper hot water for tenants and reduce overall energy bills.

Malcolm Stewart, Construction Director of Esh Property Services, explained.: “As well as being very energy efficient, the timber frame system we have developed at Esh Property Services can lead to quicker build programmes as construction work takes place both inside and outside the house at the same time.

“Timber frames also enable greater flexibility so developments are virtually bespoke and attractive, appropriate layouts can be created for both the overall site and for each home.

Ray Bloxham, deputy chair of Two Castles’ board, added: “I’m delighted that the Two Castles’ Gelt Rise development has brought quality affordable homes to Brampton at a time when affordable housing in the town is in high demand.

“The development has also benefitted the town by transforming an area around Gelt Road which was previously under-used.”
