Work to begin on new Stoke CBD

The first phase of Stoke-on-Trent’s new Central Business District (CBD) will begin to take shape in mid-May, it has been announced.

Work will begin with the removal of the former Andromeda building, to make way for the development of new offices.

Stoke-on-Trent council is working with developer Genr8 to define requirements for the new office buildings.

Cllr Ruth Rosenau, Stoke-on-Trent City Council cabinet member for regeneration, said: “The CBD is a key project within the regeneration of the city centre and it is exciting to see work starting on the site.

“As a council we are continuing to work with the developer to define the project requirements and are pleased to see the project progressing to the next stages with enabling works.”

The Andromeda building, acquired by the former Advantage West Midlands as part of the CBD project, was built in the 1980s, and houses the former Regimes nightclub and Riley’s snooker club.

Mike Smith, partner at Manchester based Genr8 said: “Work is continuing to progress well with the CBD.

“The demolition works and site preparation is the next stage of the process which we hope will be concluded by the end of the year, allowing the first phase of building works to start immediately thereafter.”
