Gloucestershire firms to meet on engineering and manufacturing
Gloucestershire engineering and manufacturing companies will have their say over the future of their sectors at a skills conference next week.
Gloucestershire Local Enterprise Partnership’s Supporting Manufacturing Skills conference is driven by economic development company GFirst with support from South West Employment and Skills Partnership.
At the conference, the results of the LEP’s Advanced Engineering and Manufacturing Sector Group will be discussed, which looked at what skills will be required in the advanced engineering sector by 2020.
Case studies from the sector group, including members such as MOOG, SPP Pumps and Delphi Diesel System will be brought into this discussion.
Development Manager at GFirst, Sarah Danson, said: “Gloucestershire has a great industrial heritage and at this event we want to help map out the future skills that we need for this to continue.
“We will also highlight the types of business support which currently exist to help businesses meet this need before the companies and local schools hear about how the LEP is working with the engineering and manufacturing sector to help create the environment to provide sustainable business growth.”
Chief Economist at the EEF, Lee Hopley and Ben Neild from Exeter University will give talks about the economy and manufacturing firms before Brian Fowler from SEMTA gives a presentation on Higher Apprenticeships.
The event is free to attend and will take place at Stonehouse Court Hotel on Bristol Road, Stonehouse, on Tuesday April 24.
