Th’ Legendary Shack Shakers - The Cluny, Newcastle. Friday April 27, 8pm. Tickets: £12.50

Just about one of the most exciting live acts you can see today. The Shack Shakers hail from Paducah, Kentucky, and are an exhilirating mix of punk, bluegrass, polka, and just about every other musical genre with a stake in the Southern States. Known for their hyperactive live shows in which frontman Colonel JD Wilkes contorts, spits and baits the audience, this outfit are unlike any other sound or spectacle out their. Outrageous, mad and fantastically good fun, this lot make for a perfect Friday night out.

Invisible Circus: No Dress Rehearsal - The Star and Shadow Cinema, Newcastle. Sunday April 29, 7.30pm.

A film which follows Bristol’s anarchist circus and spans three years, taking them from chaotic squat crew through to licensed building managers with huge show budgets via rotting garages, crumbling cathedrals and a takeover of Bristol’s ex-police HQ. Directed by Naomi Symth this is an inspiring documentary that covers performance, love, hard graft and pigeon droppings.

Bebe’s World Food and Craft Fair - Bede’s World, Jarrow. All weekend. Free admission.

A mouth-selection of local produce and a diverse range of handcrafted foods. The weekend also promises free admission to the museum and farm, while children can try their hand at one of the craft activities running throughout the weekend, as well as seeing the many animals on the farm.

Naughty Monsters Explore the Planets - Centre for Life, Newcastle. All weekend.

A specially created presentation suitable for the under 7s follows the Naughty Monsters in the Sky on a tour of our solar system. A fun and engaging look at space science for young children, which poses questions such as: are the craters on Mercury formed by the Naughty Monsters stomping with their welly boots? Set in the planetarium, also look forward to some impressive visuals.

Art

Art in the Yards - Darlington, Clark’s Yard and Buckton’s Yard. All weekend. Free admission.

An award-winning joint Darlington Borough Council and Darlington Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College project. 17 large-scale, original artworks, produced by the College’s students are located in Clark’s Yard and Buckton’s Yard, in the town centre. Pick up a guide from Darlington Tourist Information to learn more as you take a stroll through these historic parts of town.
