First SSI cargo set to leave Teesport
The first shipment of steel from the SSI UK plant on Teesside is set to leave the region for Thailand on Friday.
The cargo of 48,000 tonnes of steel slabs has been valued at $30 million.
Phil Dryden, Chief Executive of SSI UK said “We are delighted with the progress made since the recommissioning of operations last month, and the first export shipment is another important milestone for us in establishing the SSI UK Business.
“We look forward to working closely with PD Ports to achieve a world class export performance via Teesport.”
PD Ports’ Chief Executive Officer, David Robinson, added: “The first export shipment from Teesside to Thailand is another significant milestone reached for SSI UK and the Teesside region.
“We are delighted to see the increase in volume of slab coming through Teesport and together with SSI UK we aim to deliver an outstanding and first class service.”
