Introduce flexi-time to cut Olympic traffic

Businesses in London should consider introducing flexi-time working arrangements during the Olympic Games in an attempt to try and avoid transport chaos.

The TUC believe that the introduction of these measures would ease pressure on transport systems in the coming months. One in five people over the age of 55 already work from home as the trend becomes increasingly popular.

Commenting on the home working report, published to mark National Work from Home Day run by Work Wise, TUC general secretary Brendan Barber said: “The Olympics are an ideal opportunity for more employers to try out innovative flexible working practices such as flexitime and home working.

The introduction of more flexible working practices could also help to modernise the workplace, motivating workers and cutting congestion. Anecdotal evidence from employers who have introduced flexible working practices have witnessed an improvement in productivity.

Mr Barber added: “With just 70 days left until the opening ceremony employers still have time to plan smarter working practices, but there is now a sense of urgency.”
