Premier League “most represented” at Euro 2012
A fifth of the players set to represent their national teams at UEFA Euro 2012 play for Premier League clubs, according to analysis by the Sports Business Group at Deloitte.
13% of players at the tournament play their domestic football in the Bundesliga, 9% in La Liga and 8% in Serie A.
In addition to the Premier League providing 20% of the players for the tournament, there will be a further five players from last season’s Championship teams.
Dan Jones, Partner in the Sports Business Group at Deloitte, commented: “The strong representation of the Premier League at UEFA Euro 2012 is a further demonstration of its global appeal and attractiveness to many of the world’s best players.
“It is notable how closely the representation from the different leagues mirrors the financial scale of the leagues set out in our Annual Review of Football Finance.”
The recently published Annual Review of Football Finance, published earlier this week indicated that Premier League clubs’ revenues increased by 12% to £2.3 billion in 2010/11, while Broadcasting increased £138m to £1,178m; matchday revenues totalled £551m and revenue from commercial sources grew £83m to £600m.
