Popular eco-fair returns to Newcastle upon Tyne

The ever popular Newcastle Keen Green and Ethical Trade Market rolls back into town next week promising a feast of fun for all the family.

Now in its 5th year, the eco-friendly street market will be held in Grainger Street and Grey Street and will feature stalls selling ethically traded arts, crafts, clothing and jewellery, together with an international line up of foods featuring freshly cooked takeaway dishes, together with homemade, organic and free range groceries.

To add to the festival atmosphere, there will be live music throughout the event including performances from light classical soprano Rebecca Newman, violinist Andrew Hubbard and folk/indie band Holy Moly and the Crackers.

And colourful character, Eco-Peat, will be performing his “Magic with a Message” to entertain visitors. His close-up magic tricks include turning newspaper into money and crushed metal cans into brand new ones.

Paul Kennedy of organisers The Market Square Group said: “We always love coming back to Newcastle. We have a great time and continue to see a lot of support from the local community.

“Over the last five years we’ve brought together a unique range of traders and products to provide a truly original themed event. We have an ethical trading policy and we like to include products that show how businesses based in the West have developed long term commitments to partners in the developing world. As a result, visitors will find hand crafted products from countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, Nepal, India, and South America. The workmanship that goes into products made from wood, stone and textiles is exceptional and the colours of the textiles brighten up even the greyest of days.”
