Middlesbrough Life and Style celebrated by new initiative

A new initiative in Middlesbrough is helping to promote finest life and style offerings in the town.

WeDo Marketing made the decision to set up the Middlesbrough Life and Style initiative to give retailers in the town the opportunity to showcase their wares. The first event, Fashion Rules, was held at the mima art gallery, and included a collection of Pop-up shops and a fashion show.

The event received support from Middlesbrough Council, and brought together independent retailers, designers and high street brands to work in collaboration with each other.

Explaining the rationale behind the even, Maxine Freer, a partner at WeDo explained: “Retail is having a difficult time at the moment, and the more we can do to bring fashion brands to life, the more people can engage with them, and I think its great.

“There’s a fantastic buzz about it and everybody has come out for a night of fun and entertainment.

“We’ve attracted all sorts of age groups, and its just nice to see people making a real effort to get dressed up and come out on a Thursday evening and celebrate what is a great town for fashion.”

It was the first time an event of this type had ever been held at the gallery, and provided mima with the opportunity to integrate more into the city.

Adam Clarke, from mima, said: “mima decided to get involved with the event because it provided the gallery with the opportunity to work with the community in a different way.

“I think that integrating itself into the city and culture is something mima is keen to do, especially if it means that people will become more aware of the artwork we have here too.”

More initiatives are in the pipeline, WeDo have launched an accompanying website to support Middlesbrough Life and Style. To find out more, go to www.middlesbroughlifeandstyle.com.
