North West university expands work in 3D gaming

The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) in Preston has strengthened its partnership with Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) as students get to try their hand at latest 3D technology.

First and second year students on the BA (Hons) Games Design course were asked by SCEE to come up with a concept for a 3D game and, working closely with PlayStation 3D technology experts they were able to successfully integrate the new technology into their original concepts.

One of the concepts suggested by students was the ability for gamers to view two full HD screen images on a single display instead of playing games in split screen mode.

The partnership between company and university allowed both teams to see the gaming industry from a new perspective and allowed many opportunities for the students including the chance to see previews of upcoming 3D technology.

BA (Hons) Games Design course leader Bev Bush said that courses staff and students were very thankful for such an exciting insight into the gaming industry and the opportunities it has opened up to them.
