Oil and gas company makes link with Norway

International engineering and project management company AMEC has signed an agreement with one of Norway’s largest oil service companies.

Managing director of AMEC Europe and West Africa, John Pearson said: “Signing this agreement with Aibel will be beneficial for both parties involved. AMEC will be able to access many major opportunities in Norway, whereas for Aibel the agreement will extend their capacity for executing projects.”

AMEC who has its global headquarters in London, aim to deliver sustainable projects and services for customers in the oil and gas, energy and environment industries. With customers in the public and private sectors the group employ more than 27,000 people in offices across the world including .

2012 has been a good year for AMEC who have been awarded a £70 million asset contracts by SABIC UK Petrochemicals, a five year contract extension to the National Grid, and a National Safety Excellence Award.

Aibel has 5,000 employees across five countries and builds, upgrades and maintains facilities in the oil and gas sectors. Aibel Group Limited was founded as an independent company in 2007 and was acquired a group of Norwegian investors largely owned by Ferd and Herkules Capital.

The Norwegian company currently has a presence on almost half of the oil platforms on the Norwegian Continental Shelf and lists Statoil and ConocoPhillips as their principal clients.

Very few people knew that the Norwegian Continental Shelf was so rich in petroleum and gas until the discovery of gas in Groningen in the Netherlands at the end of the 1950s. As most fields contain both oil and gas, the main aim in the area is to strike a successful balance between the oil and gas industries.

It is hoped that the collaboration between AMEC and Aibel will allow increased opportunity for projects for the oil and gas industry in the Norwegian Continental Shelf.
