Salford Mayor hosts first business summit since election

Salford City’s first directly elected Mayor Ian Stewart has met with representatives from the cities largest businesses in his first business summit.

Ian Stewart was joined by Deputy Mayor Councillor David Lancaster and Chief Executive Barbara Spicer to discuss the impact of local government austerity on private sector business and the ongoing developments within the city.

Mayor Ian Stewart said: “I plan for this to be the first of a number of business summits we will host in Salford, as part of my commitment to set up a sustainable process of engagement with the city’ business leaders.

“I am dedicated to supporting economic growth across the whole of the city to create prosperity for the people of Salford and their families.”

The mayoral election in May saw Labour Party representative Ian Stewart beat Conservative Party representative Karen Garrido by 23,459 votes to 10,071.

Businesses who attended the event showed a strong commitment to the regeneration of Salford and are looking forward to seeing what the redevelopments bring. Plans are being drawn up to ensure that these business summits become a regular occurrence.
