AGM to reflect on GBSLEP’s progress

The Greater Birmingham & Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership (GBLSEP) will mark the first year of its operation with its Annual General Meeting on Wednesday.

There are still limited places left for the free event at Villa Park, which will provide an opportunity to outline the achievements of the LEP since it was formed and look at the work currently underway.

The GBSLEP was set up to drive economic growth, achieve global leadership in key sectors and help create 100,000 jobs by 2020

Among the successes during the first year in operation were securing one of the vanguard Enterprise Zones for Birmingham City Centre, bidding for £23 million from Government to kick-start stalled developments through the Growing Places programme and working with other LEPs to secure the £125 million Advanced Manufacturing Supply Chain Initiative.

There will also be new announcements around online business support and improvements in the way companies are helped with regulation.

Andy Street, Chairman of the Greater Birmingham & Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership, said: “I am pleased with the progress we have made during the first 12 months, but conscious of the even bigger challenges we face going forward.

“The Annual General Meeting is an excellent opportunity to both reflect on our progress and look where we are going and what part businesses in the LEP can play.”

The event opens at 1.30pm and starts at 2pm. To register email delegate names, company names and contact email address to lepevent@birmingham-chamber.com

Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership is one of the largest of the 39 LEPS, with a population of 1.9million people and 800,000 jobs. It contributes £34 billion to the local economy.
