NorthEast gears up for Energy and Environment 2012
The North East’s low carbon industry is set to take centre stage this week when Energy & Environment North East 2012 takes place in Newcastle.
The show, which is the biggest event in the region dedicated to the fast growing energy and environment sector, will showcase how the North East is leading the way in the development of low carbon technologies.
Organised by the Energy and Environmental Industries Forum (EEIF), the event takes place at the Marriott Gosforth Park Hotel this Wednesday (June 27) and runs between 9.15am and 5.30pm.
Energy & Environment 2012 will explore how and why the North East is at the forefront of a ‘Green Revolution’ and features a line-up of leading speakers from the region’s low carbon industry as well as key figures from the business community. It will showcase a selection of world leading projects taking place the length and breadth of the North East.
Keynote speaker is Gareth Kane, the internationally recognised environment and sustainability expert from Terra Infirma.
The two leaders of the North East Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) will also speak. Stephen Catchpole and Edward Twiddy, from Tees Valley Unlimited and the North Eastern LEP, will answer questions and offer clarification on how the LEPs can assist the transition to a low-carbon economy.
Businesses attending the show will have excellent networking and business development opportunities and the chance to engage in a panel debate and question session at the close of the conference. This will be involve Andrew Hebden, head of business, NCJ Media; Jim Hubbard, Director of Applied Science & Technology, Newcastle College; Stephen Lightley, Chief Operating Officer, North East Access to Finance Ltd; Martin McTague, National Councillor, FSB; Dr Stephen Price, Investment Manager, Northstar Ventures; Tom Smyth, Deputy Head, BIS Yorkshire, Humber & North East and Mark Stephenson, Policy Adviser, NECC.
An exciting line-up of representatives from some of the North East’s top low carbon projects will offer insights into the projects they are involved in and the benefits and opportunities this will bring to the region. The line-up includes:
Anthony Carter, Founder & Chairman, PYReco, who will outline plans to develop the world’s first facility capable of recycling used tyres into their constituent parts
Lisa Jordan, Air Products Business Manager, Bio-energy Europe, will talk about her company’s waste to energy plant which will divert 350,000 tonnes of waste from landfill and could attract up to £1 billion of investment
Professor Dermot Roddy, Founding Director, Five-Quarter, will present the story of Five Quarter’s ‘Revolutionary Coal Gasification Project’
Peter Stienlet, Co-owner, Patrick Parsons Ltd, will speak about the Tees Barrage as a trend setter for hydro-electric schemes and his company’s role within it
Other highlights of the show include speed networking sessions and the opportunity to post information and messages on a members’ noticeboard.
