University to launch international Nuclear Criticality Safety course

The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) are preparing to co-deliver and host the Nuclear Criticality Safety (NCS) workshop in Whitehaven this September.

UCLan will be working in partnership with Sellafield Limited and the University of New Mexico to co-deliver and host the workshop which is endorsed by the Nuclear Skills Academy. The event will be delivered at the universities Westlakes Campus in Whitehaven, Cumbria.

The week long programme will accommodate a range of professionals from various organisations from across the UK enabling attendees, who are set to come from all over the world, to share knowledge, best practice and experiences.

NCS was established and developed in collaboration with the University of New Mexico and Sellafield Ltd 25 years ago and is the only one of its kind in Europe.

The course is aimed at plant managers and nuclear criticality safety specialists and will give an insight into Nuclear Criticality Safety theory and practice with a strong operational slant.

For UCLan, being given the opportunity to host such an event reflects on the growing reputation of its nuclear academic community and its aim to be the leading UK University to provide support and skills for the nuclear industry.
