UK unemployed could hit 3 million

The latest survey from the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) and KPMG suggests the number of permanent and temporary jobs dropped sharply in June since July 2009.

The number of permanent jobs filled in June fell for the first time in six months and the unemployment rate in the UK was 8.2%, as 2.61 million people were jobless in June.
Kevin Green, REC chief executive, said: “A decrease in hiring activity means we could see a period of increased unemployment.”

KPMG partner Bernard Brown also said: “If this trend were to continue, there’s a very real chance we could hit a 3 million unemployed figure in the UK in the not too distant future.”
