Wetherspoons’ sales boosted by Jubilee celebrations and Euros
Pub chain JD Wetherspoon has announced an increase in sales, owing to jubilee celebrations and the Euro 2012 championships.
For the 11 weeks to July 8, like-for-like sales increased by 6.1%, and total sales increased by 11.9%.
The Watford-headquartered company has opened 40 new pubs, and closed three, and intends to open between 20 to 30 in the next financial year.
Continuing cost pressures from government legislation, including increases in excise duty, business rates and carbon tax were seen as the main challenges facing the company.
