Japanese company to buy Aegis for £3.2bn
Japan’s ad giant Dentsu is buying the UK-listed advertising agency, Aegis Group,for £3.2bn in cash.
The deal soared Aegis’s share price 45% to 236p in early trading on Thursday.
Dentsu is the fifth largest ad group globally by revenue and seeks to break international markets with the British firm’s European and digital business.
President and CEO of Dentsu, Tadashi Ishii, said: “ Dentsu and Aegis will be the market leader in the Asia-Pacific region, enjoying a strongpresence across Europe.“
“ We at Aegis are delighted at the prospect of being able to play a full part in helping Dentsu create a platform for global growth,“ said Jerry Buhlmann, the chief executive of Aegis.
The deal will create the second largest media and digital communications group in Western Europe.
