Building a centre of excellence for physiotherapy treatment
Fast and effective physiotherapy services, tailored to you
At Spire Washington Hospital and the nearby Newcastle Clinic, patients have access to the very best medical advice and treatment - and like many of our departments, our physiotherapy service is one that is very well subscribed.
Our aim is always to return patients to normal fitness as quickly as possible by providing a recovery programme tailored to individual needs - and the extremely high levels of patient satisfaction obtained is something we pride ourselves on without resting on our laurels.
We strive to be seen as the centre of excellence locally for physiotherapy and this drives us to continually invest in the team and facilities. Treatments include electrotherapy modalities, exercise classes and programmes, mobilisation and manipulation techniques, clinical pilates and acupuncture. Alongside this, we provide education on self-management and carry out work place assessments. Patients, where required, also receive fast access to diagnostic equipment, such as x-rays, ultrasound imaging, MRI scans and CT scans.
Conditions treated include arthritis, soft tissue injuries, low back pain, whip lash and neck pain, post operative conditions and repetitive strain injuries. Our expert team have a wealth of specialist experience and are always focused on the patient to ensure they get the very best of treatments and enjoy the Spire experience along the way.
In the words of a patient
Of course, it’s easy for us to say that the service is of the highest quality but it holds a lot more weight if one of our patients gives their opinion. Strategic HR consultant Julie Wilson from Seaham came to Spire Washington Hospital for a knee operation and follow up care - here’s what she had to say:
“My first experience of Spire Washington Hospital came when I was referred after rupturing my anterior cruciate knee ligament during a climbing holiday. From the start, the process was incredibly quick and efficient and I received lots of information so I felt informed about what would happen, when and why.
“Even so, the speed of service was quite surprising. At my first appointment I had an x-ray and within half an hour I was sat with my consultant discussing the results. My MRI scan was a week later and just seven days again after that I was back in to talk through what needed to be done. There was no waiting and wondering so when it was time for my overnight stay and operation, I was prepared and not as anxious as expected.
“Although the staff were great throughout the entire process, they were particularly good after the operation – my nurse Cath Allen was wonderful and the care was very personal with astonishing attention to detail. I was also reassured to receive another x-ray before heading home with my crutches, medication and follow up appointment dates. It was such a relief knowing everything was as it should be and it was another element that meant the service surpassed expectations.
“I then had six physiotherapy appointments, the first one within the space of a week. The flexible booking system made life really simple as I could come in on an evening and Nikki Prichard, a specialist in lower limb rehabilitation, was fantastic. I felt confident in my recovery, which was nice and speedy. The team at Spire Washington Hospital were friendly, professional and highly expert – all the things you want when you need hospital and outpatient care, whatever the cause or issue.”
