North West directors compete for top accolade

The finalists for this year’s North West Director of the Year Awards have been announced, following an unprecedented number of entries.

210 individuals from around the region were nominated for the awards, run by the Institute of Directors North West and sponsored by Weightmans LLP.

The finalists were shortlisted under eight different categories, and the winners will be announced at the Gala Dinner in September, with automatic entry into the National Director of the Year Awards.

This year’s judging panel includes representatives from Lancaster University, Knowledge Economy Innovations, Forge Europa and Baker Tilly.

IoD North West Chair and head judge, Tony Attard commented: “We have been really impressed by the quantity and quality of entries this year, which has made our job extremely tough. North West business directors need to implement robust strategies in order to overcome the challenges of a turbulent economy, and many of them have been doing this with real success.”

Competing for the Director of the Year for a Small and Medium Company, sponsored by BTG Restructuring are: Asif Hamid of The Contact Company; Jennie Johnson of Kids Allowed; Matthew Kimpton-Smith of Cygnet Group Ltd; and Mark Pilgrim of North of England Zoological Society.

In the Director of the Year for a Large Company category are: Ian Brown of Graham & Brown; Lorraine Dodd of Rathbone Investment Management; Roger Rawlinson of NCC Group Assurance Company; and Peter Schofield of Tetrosyl Group.This year’s Young Director of the Year finalists include: Bill Carr of Carpe Diem; Chris Eccles of Chargepoint Technology Ltd; Olivia Kehoe of BDB; and Clinton Njie of ToxicFox.

Public/Third Sector Director of the Year contenders include: Cathy Elliot of Community Foundations for Merseyside & Lancashire; Ken Perry of Plus Dane Group; Louise Shepard of Alder Hey Childrens NHS Foundation Group; and Barbara Smith of North of England Zoological Society.

In contention for the Family Business Director of the Year, sponsored by Steuer Gregsson, are: Charmay Ball of Lovania Nurseries Ltd; Matthew Bent of Bents Garden & Home; Mike Roberts of Roberts Bakery/Frank Roberts & Sons Ltd; and Peter Schofield of Tetrosyl Group.

Rob Cotton of NCC Group; Howard Goldman of Rayburn Trading Company; and David Robinson of Norkem, are all vying for Global Director of the Year, presented by UKTI.

Director of the Year for Leadership in Corporate Responsibility nominees include: Ian Brown of Graham & Brown; Mark Buchanan of Eco Environments Ltd; Lorraine Dodd of Rathbone Investment Management; and Ken Perry of Plus Dane Group.

David Craven of WST Ltd, and John McGuire of N Brown Group, are both competing for Non-Executive Director of the Year.
