Pioneering plastic bottle recycling plant to double capacity
The world’s first recycling firm to use food-grade recycled PET and HDPE from plastic bottle waste has announced a £12 million expansion of their Dagenham based plant.
Closed Loop Recycling stand at the forefront of plastics purification as the most advanced facility in the UK, and are set to create and support 100 jobs and double the capacity of its recycling plant.
Their expansion will divert 100,000 tonnes of carbon emissions on completion and will increase food-grade HDPE output, as well as minimising the harmful effects of recyclable resources on the environment by bringing used plastics back to food-grade standard.
Chris Dow is the Managing Director of the firm, and he aligns the expansion with the London Olympics as the answer to Sydney’s “green” Olympic Games in 2000.
He commented: “The Dagenham plant is proudly part of the Olympic legacy. As a direct result of the Games, London has on its doorstep one of the finest pieces of recycling infrastructure in the world.
“The Games will deliver so much more than amazing sport, it will leave a legacy of infrastructure for decades to come.”
As a London Olympic legacy business, Closed Loop Recycling hopes to encourage consumers to recycle more. The development of the plant will lead to hundreds of environmentally friendly jobs within the packaging and recycling sectors, with over 100 posts in the East London plant.
