Recycling acquisition grows DS Smith Group
Maidenhead-based DS Smith Group has integrated SCA’s recycled packaging division into its own operations, following the acquisition of the business.
The acquisition was completed early in July and now SCA’s division will bolster DS Smith Group with expertise, knowledge, reach and capabilities.
DS Smith Recycling CEO, Peter McGuinness, said: “The existing similarities between the two companies mean that the additional facilities being acquired will quickly add value and become an integral part of the DS Smith Recycling national network.
“As a result, we’ll be able to further improve our service, especially for our national contracts, as well as take the DS Smith ethos to new customers.”
In acquiring the former SCA Recycling Southampton material recovery facility (MRF), DS Smith Recycling is now in a position to lead and shape how mixed recycling collections can be managed to ensure maximum quality of material at output.
Peter added: “Adding this MRF into our operations complements our position on source segregation of fibre material and gives us greater control to ensure high quality fibre is supplied into our mills.
“It is only through the reliable supply of high-quality fibre that UK mills are able to continue to grow and contribute to the UK’s green economy.”
DS Smith Recycling is part of the UK packaging division of DS Smith Plc, and holds major contracts with clients such as The Co-Operative Group, Marks & Spencer and the Ministry of Defence.
