Biggest loser absorbs winning fitness training programme
A TV reality star who lost 40 percent of his body weight has enlisted the help of a North East fitness training business to start a new career as a fitness instructor.
Kevin McLernon from Seaburn lost a staggering 12st 12lbs in just six months on the ITV show, “The Biggest Loser” and now his future career aspirations have taken another giant leap towards reality after he contacted Absorb Fitness, a specialist provider of fitness instructor qualifications based in Houghton Le Spring, County Durham.
Fitness instructors; Kim Wells and Stephen Smith teamed up in 2007 to provide industry standard qualifications for those wanting to pursue a career in fitness. Using their collective 30 years’ experience in the fitness industry, they took over and put back into shape Absorb Fitness and have since earned the business a renowned national reputation for quality training programmes. Their courses are held in health clubs all over the North East and the pair have fostered excellent relationships with local authorities and primary care trusts.
The business attracts students from all over the UK and in response to student demand; they are currently developing a pioneering new distance e-learning programme for those who wish to become qualified but are unable to regularly attend physical sessions with the Absorb team or who simply want to learn at their own pace.
Kevin is currently working towards a Level 2 qualification in Gym Instructor and Circuit Training and despite sporting the tag of being the “biggest loser,” he feels that he has joined a winning team.
“The support and advice I’ve been given has been fantastic,” said Kevin. “Ultimately I want to work with small groups of people who like me, have a desire to change their life. I firmly believe that everyone has the ability to change their lifestyle if they really want to. The training that Absorb Fitness is providing is giving me the tools, qualifications and techniques to professionally help other people and if I can help just one person to turn their life around I will be happy.”
Course Director Kim was delighted that Kevin had enrolled with her team. “Kevin is definitely not a loser; he’s one of the most inspirational people that we have worked with. We consider him a winner and his determination; focus and drive will make him an excellent fitness instructor when he qualifies.”
Much of Absorb Fitness’s work comes through personal recommendation and Kevin has introduced his niece, Amy McLernon (24) from South Shields who was the runner up on the TV show after losing an amazing seven stone from her body weight.
“I’m also doing a Gym Instructor course and also hope to have a career in the fitness industry. The course is fun, hard work and very educational. It’s helping me to prepare for my future at the same time as keeping me fit,” she said.
