NSPCC sets up Newcastle Business Board

The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children has set up a Business Board for Newcastle. The newly appointed Board will support the NSPCC by raising the charity’s profile among the business community in the North East, engaging support from local businesses, and assisting in fundraising activities.

The Board was set up by Janet Richardson, NSPCC Corporate Fundraising Manager for the North East, and is made up of some of the North East’s most prominent business people. Janet said, “I’m delighted that we have been successful in recruiting such an influential group of people committed to helping us achieve an end to child cruelty.

“Every year thousands of children and young people in the North East are helped by our local services and ChildLine. Services at our centre in Newcastle help children to overcome the devastating effects of abuse and work with children and families to prevent further abuse. They focus on the most vulnerable, helping children who have been affected by sexual abuse, young people in local authority care, and families from minority ethnic communities. The new Business Board will be key to supporting these services and giving children and families here in the North East a brighter future.”

Chairman of the Board is Andy Scaife, Managing Director, Quantum Pharmaceutical who is joined by Chris Rigg, from Barclays, Andy Bairstow from Nexus and James Allen and Madeleine Griffith from Guerilla Communications.

Andy Scaife, Chairman of the NSPCC Business Board, said, “The NSPCC is a fantastic charity which focuses on protecting children and preventing cruelty across the UK. The NSPCC does life-changing work here in the North East of England. Helping the NSPCC to raise money from local businesses, to be spent specifically in the North East, on issues which are close to our hearts, is a challenge that the new Board is looking forward to tackling.”

The Board:

Andy Scaife, Managing Director, Quantum Pharmaceutical

Andy joined Quantum Pharmaceutical in January 2009 as Finance Director, he then moved to the role of Commercial Director before becoming the Managing Director in early 2010. Previously he worked at KPMG as the Head of Corporate Finance in Newcastle.

Chris Rigg, Corporate Director for the North East, Barclays

Chris trained and qualified as a chartered accountant with Price Waterhouse in Newcastle in 2000 joining Deloitte’s Corporate Finance Advisory team later that year. He went on to join Eaga PLC in 2009. Chris joined Barclays in December 2011 as Corporate Director for the North East.

Andrew Bairstow Communications Director, Nexus

Andy was previously Commercial Director and Head of Marketing at Nexus. He has been responsible for many Nexus initiatives in branding, retail and product development.

James Allen, Managing Director, Guerilla Communications

As the Managing Director of Guerilla, James is responsible for strategic input on a number of key accounts. In addition to this, James ensures that Guerilla consistently produces creative, award-winning campaigns both above and below the line.

Madeleine Griffith, PR Director, Guerilla Communications

Madeleine has worked in PR for several years including four years for a London agency which was featured in PR Week’s “Ones to Watch”. Madeleine has worked for various charities in the past including Norcare and Depaul UK in the North East.
