Rockliffe Hall celebrates with ‘Festival of Golf’

As Rockliffe Hall, in Hurworth, prepares to host the inaugural Northern Golf Masters Championship this Sunday, the golf club is celebrating the sport by this week hosting a Festival of Golf.

A variety of competitions are being held, including Senior Pairs and Open Pairs with the week-long event culminating this Friday, August 17th, with the Gents Open.

Tee times for this are between 9am and noon and entry costs £50 which includes bacon rolls and tea/coffee on arrival and prizes for first, second and third place.

Men with a maximum handicap of 18, with a ¾ allowance, are eligible to take part and can do so by contactinggolf@rockliffehall.comor by calling 01325 729980.

This Sunday (August 19th), around 120 golfers from all over the North of England will descend on Rockliffe Hall to compete to be crowned the best amateur golfer in the region, with the winner’s presentation being made by Graeme Storm, Rockliffe Hall’s Touring Professional.

The scratch competition for category one golfers will adopt the format of a professional tour event with first tee announcements, ball spotters and up-to-the-minute live scoring and golfers from as far afield as Leeds, York and Silloth-on-Solway have registered to take part in the competition with prizes being awarded for first, second and third place.

The golf championship will also include a range of activities for friends and family attending the event such as a breakfast buffet, a Pimm’s tent complete with cocktails and entertainment, family games, a treasure hunt, afternoon tea in The Orangery and Ride and Drive experiences hosted by Stratstone Aston Martin. The Clubhouse will be open as normal for Sunday lunch and dinner on Sunday evening.

Rockliffe Hall has become one of Europe’s leading golf destinations, hosting a range of high profile events such as the William Hunt Trilby Tour and the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation Golf Day.

Director of golf at Rockliffe Hall, Ian Knight, said: “The Festival of Golf is a chance for people to showcase their skills and play our fantastic course- praised by many professionals as being one of the best courses in the world. We’re becoming well-known across the UK for hosting some prestigious tournaments and wanted to celebrate golf to give people a chance to test themselves against other golfers in the area.“
