Nick gets his teeth into new job
A newly appointed national sales manager is literally celebrating cutting his teeth in his new role after filling a vacancy at a Sunderland dental technicians workshop.
Nick Atkinson from Wallsend has recently joined Team Valley based national training providers; Business Impact to work with companies of all sizes to identify their training needs and help them to recruit and train young apprentices. Nick’s specialised depth of knowledge gained from working for four years with another national training provider coupled with his previous experience working within property investment, motor finance and the banking sectors has now given him the chance to really change young people’s lives for the better.
Two 18 year olds who agree with Nick are Nicole Jones from Humbledon, Sunderland and Samantha Walt from Hylton Castle who have been recruited as apprentice dental technicians by the City Dental Group who has practices in Seaburn and Hartlepool.
Nick and his team at Business Impact have simplified the recruitment process for employers like City Dental by taking away the time consuming and often stressful tasks associated with recruiting the right person for the job.
“For businesses like City Dental who have taken on apprentices under 19 years old, we offer a no cost apprentice recruitment solution as we are able to access and deliver fully funded training for the 16 to 18 age group,” said Nick. “We look after every stage in the recruitment process from writing job descriptions, advertising, screening suitable applicants and interviewing. We then train the successful applicant delivering a relevant apprenticeship. In many cases, for the first three apprentices recruited we can access a government grant of £1500 to incentivise employers to engage with this age group. “
Colin Caster at City Dental was delighted with the help that Business Impact provided in the recruitment and training of the apprentices. “The process was seamless and painless, I was involved at the final interview stage and I am really pleased at the progress the two girls are making within the business. Business Impact has helped us to recruit local people from our area and they are currently helping us to find an additional apprentice too.”
Nicole who was previously unemployed has already been trained to cast impressions of teeth and make bite blocks, the first steps in a career in dentistry which she wishes to pursue into the future.
“Applying for the apprenticeship was easy to do and Business Impact have been very supportive and delivered a great apprenticeship programme. This is a fantastic opportunity and I would encourage others like me to look into apprenticeships too,” said Nicole.
The next challenge Nick and his team plan to get their teeth into is to encourage more employers to recruit 16 to 18 year old apprentices.
“We’ve proven how effective our no cost apprentice recruitment service is and how valuable the apprentices become to the organisation so we are looking at replicating this success with businesses across the country and especially the North East,” he said. “Being able to recruit and train an apprentice without any risk or recruitment costs can only be a good thing and we are there every step of the way to offer advice, training and our expertise.
