Current office space for Current Thinking
Current Thinking Assisted Listening began life in an incubator office and the company have now moved into a larger office space.
The business based at the North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC) is an induction loop and specialist audio manufacturer. Distributing to every corner of the country as well as overseas, induction loops are used to assist the hearing impaired by transmitting a sound from a sound system, microphone, television or other source direct to a hearing aid.
The company has moved into larger office space to have more room for storage but also with the hope to add to their team of eight. Stephen Binks, Director, said: “We stay at the BIC for one major reason; security. We have everything we need on site and someone is always on hand to offer advice and assistance.
“I was originally a television engineer by trade but it became more frequent that if TV’s broke people just bought a new one so I got a chance to get out and I took it. We have had our ups and our downs, happy times and very challenging times but above all we keep afloat.
“Here in the UK the Disability Discrimination act states that all reasonable adjustments are made to provide the deaf and hard of hearing with full access to goods and services,” Stephen explains:
“In America no such legislation is in place but they are starting to dabble in hearing loops. An example of this is the town, Sarasota. It is a retirement village with their own TV network and eight cinema complexes. We supplied all loops and our installer over there was invited on to their TV network to do an interview. The future is looking so positive.”
Louise Hardy, Business Mentor: “Current Thinking Assisted Listening are a fantastic example of a North East business putting their stamp all over the world, a fine example of what a business can do should it think outside of the box. Stephen is a pleasure to have at the BIC and his determination and entrepreneurial skills are truly inspiring.
“Current Thinking really does reach for the stars.”
