Rolls-royce roll out Rotherham factory plans

British manufacturer Rolls-Royce is set to build a new factory at a site in Rotherham to create approximately 180 jobs.

This will be second factory for the firm at the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) in Yorkshire, after plans were approved by councillors today.

Rolls-Royce will extend the ‘Project PoWeR’ programme at the industrial unit, which is currently underway as work on its first factory at the site begins.

The newly announced 21, 000 sq ft facility is part of a high-tech, multi million pound scheme, and Rolls-Royce’s involvement will create around 360 jobs in total.

The company’s first factory will create turbine blade castings for Rolls-Royce civil Trent aircraft, while the additional site approved today will manufacture and assemble pressure vessels for use in the next generation of nuclear power stations.

Construction on the second phase of the project will begin with work on the firm’s next factory this autumn and will be operational by 2015.

AMP marketing manager Simon Spode said: “The Council’s approval for this facility is great news and will further cement the relationship between the AMP and Rolls-Royce.
