MAS welcomes new Industrial Strategy
The Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS) has welcomed the new Industrial Strategy outlined by Business Secretary Vince Cable today.
David Caddle, MAS Area Director, commented:
“As seen in the results of our latest Barometer, manufacturing SMEs are growing and are keen to exploit new opportunities, especially overseas where British design, innovation and quality is sought after.
“Whilst firms continue to trade against a volatile economic picture, they are looking for a Government that is committed, in the long-term, to help industry grow and develop and this needs to be translated from policy into real action and support on the ground.
“Reassuringly, the Industrial Strategy outlined by Vince Cable today recognises the need to focus on advanced manufacturing, it sets out ways in which more funding will help address skills gaps and it identifies the importance of turning the UK’s fantastic academic expertise into real commercial benefits for Britain.
“We are also pleased to see plans to remove barriers to finance, so long a problem for companies in the supply chain, who are looking to grow but need access to cash to do so.”
David concluded: “The creation of a new institution to ensure firms can invest in capital is a must and it will be interesting to see how this develops over the coming months.”
