Firm’s owners open home to demonstrate technology
THE owners of a solar panel installation company are throwing the doors of their home open to give people free advice on energy use.
Ian and Lindsey Reed, of Home Solar Saver Co, are so passionate about helping people save costs and energy efficiency that they decided the best way was to show the public a real example.
So they are opening their Langley Park home in County Durham to visitors. The kettle will be on – efficiently of course – for anyone who would like to know more about the advantages of solar energy during Home Solar Saver Energy Advice Visits.
Ian explained: “Our technologically-advanced and sophisticated system is excellent and allows us to illustrate just how much energy is being used by various electrical goods.
Using special plugs and meters, the couple, who set up in business late last year, will illustrate how most homeowners can benefit from using solar – and explain why some homes are better off without it.
The couple will explain how to use the Home Solar Saver free online calculator to highlight to homeowners if solar is worth installing in their home too.
Lindsey said: “We use the latest equipment available on our installations, but some homeowners will never be able to recoup the cost of installation, so we want to help people by giving them the facts.
“If the panels aren’t going to generate enough energy in their home to make the installation worthwhile, we’d rather tell people not to install them. We are a family business and want happy customers.
“We also want to help everyone learn more about energy saving using other devices we have in our home. With energy prices rising, I’m sure everyone wants to keep their bills as low as possible.
Ian added that the free calculator was available at the company’s website – www.solarsaverco.co.uk – but the couple would be happy to illustrate how it was used during Home Solar Saver Energy Advice Visits.
He said that visitors would also be shown just what devices used the most electricity with a special meter in the couple’s home.
“It’s amazing to see just how much energy is used by some electrical items. We believe the meter will help us show people how to use energy more efficiently.
“We believe it will help them consider what they use so that they waste less and reduce their energy bills, something we’re sure everyone would like to do.”
The Open Home Solar Saver Visits to the Reed’s home are free to anyone who’d like to see solar systems at work. To arrange a visit, contact Ian or Lindsey on freephone 0800 0787903.
