Olympic event gives charity a boost

An annual Olympic style staff event held by Stanley based SONE Products Ltd (SONE), has generously boosted donations to Give Tilly a Hand, one of the region’s most worthwhile causes, by £1,000.
Give Tilly a Hand was set up by Tilly’s mum, Sarah Lockey, after her daughter was struck down by meningitis at a very young age. As a result, Tilly lost both hands and her toes. The aim of the charity is to provide funds for the upkeep and renewal of Tilly’s prosthetic hands, as well as providing security for her future needs and adaptations.
In similar fashion to the recent Olympics and the Paralympics, SONE’s staff completed a number of gruelling events which stretched them to their limits. These included a physically challenging bouncy castle style obstacle course, an egg and spoon race and a (not for the faint-hearted) wheelbarrow race!
Added to that, the teams went head-to-head to compete in ‘Buzz Off’, a most infuriating wire challenge game where making contact with the wire and causing it to buzz eliminates even the strongest of athletes.
Each year SONE, a supplier of innovative solutions in plastics for technically demanding markets, holds a fun staff event to thank employees for their continued support for the company. Speaking about this year’s event, chairman and CEO, Raymond Oliver said:
“The event give us all a chance to meet up outside of work and enjoy a great day and night out. Everyone displayed great camaraderie, not to mention a competitive spirit. This is a way of saying thank you to all staff and it also gives us an opportunity to give something back to the community.
’’Raising a marvellous £1,000 for Give Tilly a Hand shows the generosity of spirit of our employees and local businesses who kindly donated prizes on the day. We sincerely hope that the money makes a difference to Tilly.“
Commenting on this latest donation, Tilly’s mum, Sarah Lockey, added:
“Each year it gets harder to raise funds and receiving such a significant sum is equivalent to six months of hard work and effort to everyone involved in the charity. For SONE and its employees to make this kind donation without being asked is incredibly heart warming and hugely appreciated. Thank you.”
