Ian Brown wins IoD North West award
The Institute of Directors North West has named Ian Brown, Director of Blackburn-based wall-covering firm Graham & Brown, as its Director of the Year 2012.
Brown, who was also named Director of the Year for a Large Company, was commended for driving the company’s growth and performance. He was amongst nine other directors who were awarded at the 9th annual Director of the Year Awards at a ceremony at The Point Lancashire County Cricket Club, which was sponsored by Weightmans LLP.
For the first time, the awards were categorised by business structure and size instead of region, attracting a record number of entrants. Directors from around the North West were represented in a glittering ceremony attended byover 350 guests and was hosted by BBC Breakfast’s Stephanie McGovern.
Tony Attard, chair of IoD North West who also sat on the judging panel, said: “We have been extremely impressed with the calibre of expertise our region has to offer. This year has been tough for many businesses, but we are delighted to be able to recognise the high performers whose strategic vision and best practice have helped them to beat the recession. The judging process was particularly tough this year, so we’d like to congratulate all of the finalists.”
Darrell Matthews, regional director of the IoD North West, added:
“All of the shortlisted directors have demonstrated business excellence this year. Their entrepreneurial spirit and overall determination have seen them through to success.”
All of the winners are now automatically considered for entry into the IoD’s UK Director of the Year Awards 2013.
