Best matrics newcomer award for North East surveyor
The national board of RICS matrics has awarded the title of ‘best newcomer’ to North East surveyor Thomas Conneely at its annual conference in Brighton.
Thomas, who acts as chairman for the North East matrics group, works for Newcastle-based JK Property Consultants and received the commendation on the back of a significant increase in engagement among young RICS members in the region following his election to the post.
Since Thomas accepted the position of chairman just last July, the regional committee has organised two sell out events, an inter-professional networking event and a summer BBQ attended by over 70 people.
Thomas’s group also took part in the nationwide lighting of Diamond Jubilee Beacons co-ordinated by the RICS to mark the Queen’s 60th year on the throne. Of all the beacons spanning the length and breadth of the UK, the beacon at Deadwater Fell in Kielder was the largest.
Thomas himself has made significant contributions on a national level to key industry debates, including proposed changes to the assessment of professional competence (APC) that surveyors are required to undergo.
The purpose of the RICS matrics group is to look after the interests of those entering the surveying industry and provide a network, support and voice for new members.
Thomas said: “Everyone on the North East matrics committee is committed to driving our industry forward so it has been a pleasure working with the team to ensure the change we want happens.
“The ‘best newcomer’ award has been nice to receive but we’re ambitious for our members and are now aiming for the ‘best regional RICS matrics group in the UK’ come December 2012.”
RICS members can find out more about the North East matrics group by contacting Thomas Conneely at JK Property Consultants on 0191 406 0038 or by emailing thomas@jkpropertyconsultants.com.
