New theatre manager for Spire Washington Hospital
Spire Washington Hospital has appointed Andrew Johnson to the position of theatre manager and as a member of its senior management team.
Having previously spent a year as deputy theatre manager, the move recognizes Andrew’s success in driving forward the latest professional standards, increasing new business and his commitment to ongoing staff development within the department.
Andrew, 39 from County Durham, joined Spire Washington Hospital as a perioperative practitioner in 2008 after working for an NHS Trust for three years.
Appointed to anaesthetic team lead a short time after, Andrew was in charge of nine staff before moving into theatre management, where he now has oversight of theatre administration, bookings, endoscopy and sterile services, as well as a team of 50 staff.
Andrew said: “Spire Washington Hospital is an excellent place to work, led by a management team focused on ethics, standards and continuous professional development.
“I have benefited from the training provided at the hospital and part of my focus is to ensure that others can now access the type of opportunities that I have enjoyed too.”
Spire Washington Hospital is part of national Spire Healthcare Group, which has 37 hospitals across the UK.
Silvie Adams, director of Spire Washington Hospital, added: “Patient care is at the heart of everything we do and we work hard to attract, secure and nurture the best, most highly qualified staff to look after those passing through the hospital and its clinics.
“As someone who has taken every opportunity given to him, Andrew is an excellent example of the talent we are proud to employ and shows how real career progression is available to those wishing to make a difference in the healthcare sector.”
