Ex-servicemen recruited into energy sector by NOF Energy
An initiative to recruit ex-servicemen into the energy sector has been set up between fuel business support organisation, NOF Energy and The British Forces Resettlement Services (BFRS).
The “Military2Energy” careers service will promote roles within the energy industry to armed forces leavers and encourage them to apply their skills, which have been identified as highly transferable, to jobs in the fuel industry.
Over 20,000 people leave the Armed Forces each year, and with Ministry of Defence plans to more than double the number of redundancies in the military, energy firms can benefit by recruiting from this huge influx of talented individuals.
Training courses, trial work placements and careers events will be a platform for ex-servicemen to interact with companies, while businesses can create links using the BFRS’s resources.
A 12-month project will offer support and marketing opportunities to allow energy firms to make themselves more visible to Army and Navy leavers.
Joanne Leng MBE, Director Business Development at NOF Energy, said: “The Military2Energy Careers Service offers businesses in the energy sector an excellent platform to take advantage of the fantastic skills on offer and I would urge them to get involved with the scheme.
“The transferable skills of armed forces personnel make them perfect candidates for positions within the energy sector, with many possessing specialist engineering and technical skills in high demand from the sector.”
NOF Energy’s partnership with the BFRS has been launched after the success of the Energy Sector Military to Civilian Careers Fair last month.
BFRS is a not-for-profit organisation working for people in the Armed Forces by offering support to ex-soldiers as they make the transition back into civilian life.
The Marketing Director from BFRS, Hannah Reynolds commented: “BFRS champions the skills, qualities and expertise possessed by those in the Armed Forces community and we’re thrilled to be working with NOF Energy to help promote the valuable contribution that ex-military personnel can make to the energy sector.”
