Muckle law firm welcomes work experience students

Commercial law firm, Muckle LLP, will provide work experience placements to local children in the North East of England.

Eight schools and colleges in the area will work with the company to give its students the opportunity to work within a professional firm.

The “Inspiring Careers Programme” hopes to offer career opportunities to students between the ages of 17 and 18 from a diverse range of backgrounds.

Muckle aims to give the pupils invaluable work experience, and to help them set themselves apart when they make applications for jobs and universities.

Managing partner, Stephen McNicol, said: “It is increasingly difficult for young people to break into the legal profession without relevant work experience, and evidence suggests that it is even harder for those who do not have connections or family networks that create work experience opportunities.

“We have made a long term commitment to this region and in particular to supporting the communities in which we live and work.”

One student interested in pursuing a career in law welcomed the programme. Lauren Graham, a year 12 student at Kenton School said: “I have always been interested in doing law and I wanted to take part because law is such a hard area to get work experience in.

“This week is a great opportunity to gain new skills and talk to lots of people working at a law firm.”

Participants will receive CV advice and support from Muckle LLP, and will spend time in HR, finance, business development, IT and client services, and will work with lawyers during their time at the company.

Mr McNicol concluded: “We believe very strongly in nurturing the talent we have in the region. To do that we need to help students understand what the opportunities are, encourage them to realise their full potential and demonstrate that they do not need to leave the North East to pursue a challenging, varied and rewarding career.”
