You are what you ...wear?
Bdaily spoke to style and image consultant Jenny Bersin ahead of the North East expo on November 7th at Gosforth Racecourse in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Jenny, who will be speaking on the day, told Bdaily about the importance of style and image when it comes to succeeding in business.
“I’m a style and image consultant, but I do something quite differently to other people in my area. I use myself as the example to draw people in, and everything I do is very visual.
“It takes 3 minutes for someone to make an assumption about who you are, so I will start in one outfit, and I will ask the audience, what assumptions have you made about me? Then I change into a different outfit which actually works for me, and ask: Is this what you expect a style consultant to look like? And the answer is yes. This gets people involved and gets them thinking.
“I’ll be saying that style opens doors. Statistics show that the more you look as though you’re good at your job, the more likely you are to be successful.
“You’re more likely to succeed if you’re not good at your job but look as if you are, than if you’re very good at your job but don’t look as if you are.
“Style isn’t about fashion, this is about how to communicate something about who you are, and this is what I’ll be talking about at the North East expo.”
