Superdry helped by cold weather
Cheltenham’s SuperGroup, the owners of clothing brand Superdry, have posted 20.3% growth in sales over the second quarter.
Cold weather in the latter part of the quarter contributed to the sales, as did the sell-through of third party stocks, from the rebranding of Cult stores and clearance of Superdry ranges.
Total Group sales for the quarter increased to £98.4m and for the half year, increased by 16.2% to £158.2m.UK sales in the quarter increased 32.2% on the same period last year, and like-for-like sales were up 5.8%.
SuperGroup remained cautious about the results, suggesting they were measured against “soft” comparatives the year before.
Julian Dunkerton, Chief Executive Officer, commented: ’’This is a further solid set of results from the Group. We recognise that economic conditions remain challenging but through our sales performance to date we can see that the Superdry brand remains in good health and is well positioned ahead of our peak trading.
“Whilst I am pleased with the progress that the new team is making there remains much to do. We are in the process of introducing a key number of systems and operational developments to ensure our infrastructure capabilities match the size of the business and our ambitions. I am, however, confident that the Group will deliver these and meet its financial objectives.”
