Buckinghamshire LEP opens consultation on sustainable economic growth

A consultation on plans for sustainable economic growth was opened by Buckinghamshire Thames Valley Local Enterprise Partnership (BTVLEP) at Whitehall in front of over 100 business leaders.

Following a review issued by Conservative peer Lord Heseltine, which recommended that LEPs should form their own plans for future growth, BTVLEP has called for ideas to contribute towards a strategy to buttress prosperity in the region.

BTVLEP’s Board Director, Michael Garvey, opened the consultation before entrepreneurs and MPs, including Bucks County Council leader, Martin Tett and Steve Baker, Conservative MP for Wycombe.

Local businesses have been urged to bring their concerns forward, along with economic evidence to draw up a “Plan for Sustainable Economic Growth”, which will identify key priorities for the Buckinghamshire area.

Mr Garvey, who is also the Managing Director of property firm, Stupples Chandler Garvey, said he hoped the consultation would maintain Buckinghamshire’s status as “the Entrepreneurial Heart of Britain.”

BTVLEP’s Chairman, Alex Pratt, commented: ’We clearly live in extraordinary times. Many of the old paradigms and old ways of working are no longer fit for purpose. We must think differently, to harness new ideas to generate growth and jobs.

“That is why we are asking for local businesses to submit any ideas they have for growing the Buckinghamshire economy. Whilst we might not be able to include them all, we are really looking for a few key ‘game changers’.”
