De La Rue hampered by order delays

Berkshire security products firm De La Rue have revealed a 5% increase in Group operating profits, estimated to be at £33m.

The firm, who specialise in banknote printing, paper-making and cash handling systems, have facilities in Gateshead, Loughton, Essex and Bathford.

Banknote print volumes were up 4% at 2.9 billion notes, while banknote paper volumes declined 15% to 4,500 tonnes, owing to additional capacity introduced by other manufacturers.

De La Rue said a significant number of orders planned for production in the second half of the current financial year have been delayed.

As such, the firm said it will be too late for these orders to benefit the current financial year, and expected results to remain similar to those of the 2011/12 period.
