Successful launch for C & A Pumps

A NEW engineering business is expecting to double its turnover to £1.2million by the end of its second year.

C & A Pumps & Engineering Ltd launched this month and has already secured lucrative contracts with the likes of Cleveland Fire Brigade, HM Prisons and leading housing developers.

The business had been part of a larger engineering group called Renew Holdings until earlier this year when the parent company decided to close the operation.

But rather than end a 24 year association with C & A Pumps, employee Alan Roberts decided to buy the identity and re-launch as a brand new business – immediately safeguarding 10 jobs.

Alan has also decided to locate the new C & A Pumps & Engineering Ltd in his hometown of Hartlepool with the business occupying two offices and a workshop at the town’s Queen’s Meadow Business Park.

He said: “We are very excited about the future of the new C & A Pumps as we have managed to secure work from many of our former contracts and win a lot of new business too. That has come about because of our excellent reputation in the industry.

“We have secured work as part of the refurbishment of Billingham Fire Station and electrical maintenance for the prisons. Also, the installation of a water filtration plant on the therapy pool at Catcote School in Hartlepool.

“The projected turnover for year one is £600,000 and for 10 staff – we’re already there on the staff and I fully expect to double both staff and turnover in year two.”

C & A Pumps & Engineering Ltd provides electrical and mechanical installation services for commercial and industrial customers including Sedgefield Racecourse and the business centres operated by UK Steel Enterprise across Teesside. Its largest order to date has been from Seymour Civil Engineering to work on a Northumbria Water site in Northumberland.

It also provides emergency electrical and mechanical maintenance services, and has launched a separate health and safety training consultancy called C & A Safety Solutions.

All 10 staff were made redundant from the original C & A business and have now been recruited to the new C & A Pumps & Engineering Ltd due to their skills and experience. The majority are qualified engineers working on site on customer projects.

Alan added: “The business built its reputation on supplying pumps to industry and although that’s still a big part of things, the growth area is utilities and maintenance.

“The decision to locate in Hartlepool was an easy one because we have a lot of business in both Teesside and in Tyne & Wear and a lot of the staff live here.

“I knew I had to bring a highly skilled team with me, with the commitment to make this a real success. I am very confident I have that team in place.”
