Protector Group secures success thanks to apprentices
The increasingly high tech world of security is benefitting from quality recruits thanks to a new Security Technician apprenticeship programme.
Access Training, in partnership with Cablecom Training and Gateshead College, is working with a number of the leading companies in the security industry to supply and train their apprentices.
Protector Group, based in Gateshead, has taken on four apprentices in recent times including 19 year old Louis Taylor who has just successfully completed his Level 2 apprenticeship.
Graeme Wilson, engineering manager at Protector Group, comments on why apprentices have become a key part of his staff recruitment and retention plan:
“Taking technician apprentices on takes a lot of hassle away from us in terms of on-the-job training. We know and trust that new employees are learning the standards and technical theory they require for us to deliver a great service. The programme teaches them how to commission and test systems and learn all about the different products we offer.”
Apprentice Louis works on fitting a wide variety of security systems for clients across England including temporary systems for construction sites, buildbases and fire and access systems.
He said: “I absolutely love my job and my training has been spot on. I go to college for one day a week on a Wednesday and I can honestly say that everything I learn I actually use on site every single day. I’m about to begin my advanced apprenticeship and hope to stay with Protector Group and work my way up.”
