Coast & Country Makes Donation To Filey Charity

Coast & Country, which is building much-needed affordable housing in Filey, has donated computer screens to one of the town’s charities.

Six monitors are being recycled through a donation to Age UK Scarborough & District, which is based at Filey Resource Centre, in Belle Vue Street.

The charity organises computer training sessions for older people. One of the main focuses is helping them learn how to keep in touch with friends and family, including the use of Skype and email.

One centre user now is able to keep in regular touch with his son in Helsinki as a result of the lessons

Coast & Country is building 300 much-needed new homes, incorporating a mixture of two, three, four and five bedroom homes and bungalows, at Mill Meadows in Muston Road, Filey.

Anthony Brown, Coast & Country Director of Property and Assets, said: “A major part of Coast & Country’s contribution to Filey is to support the wider community.

“Age UK Scarborough & District’s IT initiative has such a positive impact on the area that Coast & Country was only too happy to help enhance the scheme with the donation of these computer monitors.”

John Holmes, Chairman of Coast & Country Developments, Coast & Country’s subsidiary development company, which is driving the construction of Mill Meadows, added: “We hope this is the start of a long relationship with Age UK and we plan to donate further IT equipment that becomes surplus to our requirements.”

Pam Utley, Manager of the Resource Centre, said: “We are extremely grateful for this generous donation from Coast & Country – the computer monitors will be put to good use.

“Without the support of the local community, we would not be able to provide this IT training, which helps prevent older people in Filey become lonely and isolated and helps them keep in touch with friends and relatives, who live a long way away.”

The resource centre provides support and activities to people who are aged 50-plus, and with the aim of overcoming social isolation.

Mill Meadows has secured a grant of £2.3m grant from the Homes and Communities Agency.
