Pinterest acquires recipe sharing site Punchfork
Online image sharing board Pinterest has announced its first acquisition since it launched in 2008, after an agreement with recipe aggregator Punchfork, for an unnamed sum.
Pinterest is a social “pinboard” which allows users to bookmark their favourite images through its site and mobile apps, while San Franciscan-based Punchfork collates recipes from trusted recipe blogs and site to let users search and bookmark their favourites.
The recipe aggregator displays the most popular shared recipes, and allows users to search for meals according to their dietary needs.
The two businesses will merge, and Punchfork announced it would retire its site, API and mobile apps once the transition is made.
Jeff Miller, chief executive of the bought firm said: “We believe that a unified destination benefits our users in the long run, and the Punchfork team will focus on contributing to Pinterest as the premier platform for discovering and sharing new recipes and other interests on the web.
“Our sincerest thanks to our community members, friends, and everyone involved with Punchfork since its launch.”
Jeff Miller will join the Pinterest team in San Francisco once Punchfork closes its doors.
