Rain impacts paving firms revenue
Yorkshire block paving specialists Marshalls’ have reported a 7% fall in turnover, blaming bad weather for declining demand.
The Elland-based firm said heavy rain had hampered the normally busy summer months, as revenue for the year fell to £309, from £334m the previous year.
Sales to the public sector and commercial markets, which represent 63% of the firm’s books, were down 6%. Domestic sales, which represent around 32% of Group sales were down 12% compared with the prior year period.
A statement from Marshalls’ said: “Despite the challenging economic background, Marshalls continues to target growth markets within the Public Sector and Commercial end market.
“Street furniture, water management and internal natural stone flooring are seen as particular growth areas, in addition to the continuing commitment to home, rail and retail.
“The Group continues to focus on product innovation and delivering industry leading customer service.”
