Graduate GEMs Join Gentoo

People, Planet and Property company Gentoo is helping graduates launch their careers in the housing industry through the successful Graduate Employment Mentoring (GEM) programme.

Gentoo has welcomed five new interns, aged from 21 to 33, through the GEM programme, on a 12 month placement. As well as providing valuable first hand experience of working and networking in the social housing and communities sector, the interns also have the fantastic opportunity to gain a Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) qualification to put towards their future careers.

The GEMs placements are funded through an association between the employing company and the Centre for Partnership. Gentoo’s Head of Learning, Pat Havord said: “The quality of GEMS candidates has been so good that we have expanded the number of internships from two to five. They bring their ideas, qualities and enthusiasm to help us develop and expand our business.”

GEM Programme Manager at the Centre for Partnership, Amanda Livermore, said: “We are delighted with the calibre of graduates joining our fifth cohort of the GEM Programme, the first nationally. They are already making a difference to our partner organisations and have the capacity to become some of the rising stars of the future.

“Our previous GEM Programmes have yielded an 85% success rate in terms of getting graduates into work following the programme. With the added value of the CIH qualification, we’re giving our students an even better opportunity to forge a meaningful, long term career in the sector.”

Gentoo Group’s whole ethos is about believing nothing is impossible and finding new ways to challenge conventions, Gentoo aims to make society a better place to live and to make a real difference to the way people live their life.
