Sheffield LEP board expands

The Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) will be joined by the Derbyshire Dales District Council as the ninth member of its board.

A meeting on Tuesday 15th confirmed plans for the two organisations to join together to allow for collaboration on growth plans in the region.

Cllr Lewis Rose, OBE, leader of the council, commented: “Economic development is a high priority for the District Council, and Derbyshire Dales is pleased to be officially joining the LEP Board and looks forward to working in collaboration with private and public sector members to further the Sheffield City Region’s economic and employment ambitions.”

Sheffield City Region LEP’s chairman, James Newman added: “This decision reflects the important economic linkages between the Derbyshire Dales and the Sheffield City Region.

“‘Derbyshire Dales’ membership will further bolster our economic and employment ambitions - particularly given its multitude of successful small businesses, high quality of life and unrivalled tourism offer.”

Areas of the Peak District are included in the Derbyshire Dales District Council’s coverage, including Ashbourne, Bakewell, Matlock and Wirksworth.

Derbyshire Dales will join other councils from Barnsley, Bassetlaw, Chesterfield, Rotherham and Doncaster, amongst others, on the LEP board.

Sheffield City Region currently caters for an area with 1.8m people and covers around 700,000 jobs.
