North East Leisure Company Launches New Brand

One of the North East’s leading leisure companies has unveiled its latest development, which includes the creation of 30 new jobs.

Tavistock Leisure, which owns hotels, bars and restaurants across the region, has taken ownership of the former Lambton Worm pub at North Road, Chester-le-Street which will reopen in early March after a £500,000 refurbishment.

The pub will be renamed the Lambton Worm Sonnet 43 Brew Pub and Restaurant, featuring mainly real ales created by Tavistock’s own Sonnet 43 brewery in Coxhoe.

The Lambton Worm will be the first of four planned Sonnet 43 Brew Pubs and Restaurants to open, which include two at undisclosed sites later this year.

“The success of other initiatives such as our pub partnership has given us the confidence to launch this new brand,” said Jonathan Graham, director of Tavistock Leisure.

“This will be a traditional English style pub with first class food using ingredients sourced from local suppliers wherever possible.”

Along with the restaurant menu dinners will be able to enjoy “traditional bar snacks” including real Scotch eggs and homemade pies.

The pub will offer Sonnet 43 brewery’s six ales, a range of guest ales which will change on a regular basis and some lagers.

Refurbishment has begun at the pub and the plan is to launch in early March.

“We feel this a really exciting concept and will give both local people and visitors from further away the chance to sample real hearty food and real ales with a distinct North East flavour,” said Jonathan.

Tavistock Leisure is one of the North East’s leading leisure operators, running the Best Western Grand Hotel Hartlepool and the Best Western Roker Hotel in Sunderland along with a number of Italian restaurants under the Tavistock Retro Restaurant brand.

The company also now runs a variety of outlets under its Pub Partnership scheme which include Italian eateries and an Indian restaurant
