Recycled UK invests £150,000 in new bonded warehouse

Recycled UK Ltd unveiled one of the country’s largest secure destruction facilities yesterday as part of ambitious expansion plans for the year.

The Coseley-based recycling specialist has invested more than £150,000 into a specialist bonded warehouse that includes twelve position picking stations, automated shredder and a baling machine.

Measuring 14,500 sq ft, the unit is equipped with state-of-the-art CCTV systems so that customers can log in and watch their products being destroyed.

This is the latest in a series of investments by the thriving firm that will see turnover nearly double to £2m by the end of the year.

Paul Green, Managing Director, explained:

“The bonded facility will look after the secure destruction of CDs, DVDs and, thanks to our new vision imaging software, x-rays for the healthcare sector.

“These have all been major growth areas for our business and this dedicated facility will give us the capacity to take on new clients, including EMI, local police forces and customs and excise.”

“It’s all about providing total peace of mind. From the minute the product arrives at Coseley in one of our trucks, we log it then track it throughout the disposal phases. The client even gets a record of its destruction – better still all of this is free of charge.”

He went on to add: “We have already been audited, approved and accredited by FACT (Federation Against Copyright Theft), which is a big plus in our industry.”

Recycled UK has spent nearly £200,000 on new equipment, vehicles and technology in 2012 following growing demand for its recycling services in hard plastics, cardboards and film.

There has been strong interest in the new solutions it has developed for disposing of time expired x-ray films for the medical sector.

The Black Country firm has joined forces with Worcester-based Industrial Material Recycling to create bespoke vision imaging software that could save NHS Healthcare Trusts hundreds of thousands of pounds every year.

The technology, which has been developed with an industry leading professional, can set specific parameters to filter the files to ensure only the right ones are extracted and securely destroyed.

It also takes a digital image of the label, including patient ID, so the Trusts not only receive an electronic record but one that can be searched for in EXCEL to help with recovery of information.

All work is carried out in compliance with hospital information governance and medical record policy and orders have already been successfully completed.

Paul continued: “The savings we can provide are eye-watering. We’ve just completed one job for a NHS Trust that has saved them in excess of £1m.

“With the emphasis on reducing spending in the medical sector, we offer a service that is proving too good to turn down.”

Recycled UK, which has taken on 8 new staff in the last six months, processes 100 tonnes a week at its Coseley site.
