Biochemica makes a move as part of expansion

The North East’s largest independently owned water treatment firm, Biochemica UK Ltd has expanded into new office and warehousing space amid ongoing growth plans which will see the company take on new staff.

Biochemica, which provides a complete range of water treatment products, chemicals and technical services to some of the region’s major manufacturing and chemical companies is set to take on an additional two employees to meet increasing customer demand from both its local and nationwide operations.

Having originally been located in Hartlepool, Biochemica made the move to Billingham in response to the need for additional warehouse space and to accommodate its ever-growing workforce, which has almost doubled since 2011.

Managing Director at Biochemica, Dave Ruddy said: “We are all very excited by the move. Our new headquarters on Cowpen Lane Industrial Estate in Billingham are closer to the heart of industrial Teesside and the home of the region’s process industry – an area which Biochemica serves heavily.

“Our new facility offers us numerous opportunities, particularly in terms of the warehousing space. We now benefit from greater storage for our chemical products which in turn gives us the ability to respond even more efficiently to our customers’ requirements.”

Biochemica has built its reputation and client base on its unique Total Water Management philosophy, which Dave believes has provided the foundations for the company’s success and subsequent growth to date. He added: “As one of only a few companies in the UK to specialise in both influent and effluent operations – what we call our Total Water Management approach, we are able to offer the full spectrum of water treatment services tailored to each client’s requirements.

“Our specialist approach and solutions-focused ethos, which our customers lay at the heart of, have certainly contributed to our achievements. We are now looking to continue our expansion by emerging within new markets and taking on more national work.”

After enjoying substantial year-on-year growth, much of which is attributed to securing a string of new contract wins and successful re-tender processes, Biochemica has already bolstered its team and is now looking to increase it further.

Dave added: “During 2012 we restructured our sales force, took on additional office staff and appointed a dedicated Marketing Officer.

“We are now looking to boost our field team by recruiting a Service Chemist to work across our North East client base. In addition, we are also recruiting a North East Business Development Manager to focus on driving regional growth.”

Biochemica is a keen local employer with almost 60 percent of its current employees - and the entire staff based at the new headquarters – hailing from the North East.
